Sanjay Basu
Co-Founder + Head of Clinical Product Development Waymark
As Waymark's Head of Clinical, Sanjay Basu oversees the company's R&D teams. His team builds technology for community-based "street medicine" care teams. Previously, Dr. Basu was Director of Research at Harvard Medical School's Center for Primary Care. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles, was named a "Top 100 Global Thinker" by Foreign Policy Magazine, received the NIH Director's New Innovator Award and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. He currently practices medicine at San Francisco's Integrated Care Center, providing primary care, behavioral health, and substance use services for unhoused people.
Q: What motivates you to continue working towards change each day?
A: I'm driven to help people achieve excellent health and life outcomes, improve our ability to focus on positive relationships, reduce healthcare's administrative burdens through better technology, and spread kindness to underserved populations.
Q: What accomplishment(s) are you most proud of from 2023?
A: One of my proudest 2023 accomplishments was extending our care model to several thousand patients in two states, preventing one fourth of their emergency and hospital visits.
